Horsham
GrainGrowers has partnered with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator
(NHVR) to host free workshops on the ‘Chain of Responsibility’ to help growers
understand their legal obligations under updated heavy vehicle transport safety
laws. The laws and regulations can sometimes be confusing, so these
practical workshops have been designed specifically for grower questions to be
answered.
The Horsham COR workshop will be followed by an on-site tour of the
Wimmera Container Line (WCL) located at the Wimmera Agricultural Logistics
Hub. In January 2015, the SCT Group assumed ownership of the Wimmera
Container Line (WCL). In 1974 Peter Smith established SCT Logistics an
Australian-owned and operated multi-modal transport and logistics company that
incorporates WCL. SCT Logistics transports import and export containers from
Horsham by rail to the Port of Melbourne and Interstate to Perth and Brisbane.
In the Peak of 2017, it ran 7 days a week, directly into the Port of Melbourne.
The success of the Horsham operation resulted in 26,000 TEU export containers
[Totalling 52,000 TEU] being transported by rail in 2017.
Information will be presented on the development of logistics in the region and the future rail can play in assisting producers to get their produce to markets.
For the tour all guest are required to wear enclosed footwear, Steel cap if possible. If you have a High Vis Vest handy please bring it along.
All guest will either need to provide a photo of a negative RAT taken within the last 24 hours or complete a RAT (provided by GrainGrowers) onsite prior to entering the event. Please allow extra time on arrival for this to occur - Approx 15 mins
